Becoming parents was a rocky journey for Lysanne and her husband. Today they are proud parents of their now teenage son, but throughout their time of loss Lysanne longed for a book that would explain honestly and sometimes brutally, how miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy affects women and their partners.
In 2000, having survived her third and last ectopic pregnancy, and by then also proud mother of a son, she decided to call a halt to the quest for further children, bought her son a wonderful border collie as a companion, and, as part of her own healing process she began to work through her diary notes of the past seven years. This resulted in Small Sparks of Life, a tribute to the five small sparks that remained close to her heart and the son that managed to come through.
It is also dedicated to the courage and bravery of the many women and their partners, who still struggle with one of society's most hidden griefs, in the hope that her story may give them comfort.
